Cops: South Carolina teen attacks officer amid school bus fight

NEWBERRY, S.C. -- Two South Carolina teens have been charged after a school resource officer and a bus driver were attacked during a school bus fight.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said in a statement that two 14-year-old boys started fighting on a bus Wednesday morning. The sheriff said the school resource officer got on the bus and tried to help the bus driver break up the fight.

Foster said one of the boys jumped on the officer’s back and hit her several times. The sheriff said she was able to get both boys under control and take them into custody. She suffered a wrist injury.

One boy is charged with fighting and assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest. He’s been taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia. The other teen is charged with fighting.
