SC woman accused of sending "prank" school shooting text

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A woman has been arrested for falsely reporting a shooting at a Spartanburg college on April Fool's Day.

Angela Timmons, 54, has been charged with breach of peace, disturbing schools and illegal use of a telephone in a prank authorities didn't find funny.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says more than a dozen of his deputies responded to Virginia College on Tuesday morning after Timmons' daughter called 911 saying she got a text from her mother, an employee at the school, who reported that shots had been fired at the campus and that she was hiding.

Wright says the daughter called 911 after Timmons did not respond to a subsequent message. Deputies arrived at the school and determined that no shooting had occurred.

Wright says Timmons admitted the message was a prank.
