Cops: Man who fatally shot girlfriend's ex won't be charged

COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina police and prosecutors say no charges will be filed after a man was shot and killed during a home invasion that targeted his former girlfriend.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said 26-year-old Roderick Eugene Harris Jr. died at a Columbia hospital after being shot in the chest.

Police said Watts broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment shortly before midnight Sunday and was shot by the woman's new boyfriend. They said the woman told them she had ended a relationship with Harris and he had threatened her and her the new boyfriend.

The woman told police Harris broke into her apartment and began arguing with her new boyfriend and charged at him, before he pulled a gun and shot Harris.

Police said the shooter is cooperating in the investigation.
