Sarah Michelle Gellar is taking her "Cruel Intentions" character to TV

Sarah Michelle Gellar is heading back to TV to reprise one of her most iconic roles -- no, not the vampire-slaying one.

Gellar confirmed on her Instagram account that she's set to reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil in the "Cruel Intentions" series, a follow-up to the 1999 film starring Gellar, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, recasting "Dangerous Liaisons" with bratty rich teens on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

To celebrate the news, Gellar posted side-by-side photos of her with the film's director, Roger Kumble, and executive producer Neal Moritz, one taken while making the original film and one taken this week.

The series, for which a pilot is currently being filmed, will center on Bash Casey (Taylor John Smith), the son of Phillippe and Witherspoon's characters, as he learns the truth about his late father and the family's dark history.
