San Diego police seek suspect in triple homicide mystery

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Police have released a description of a suspect wanted for questioning in three killings, at least two of which they say occurred at a mall in San Diego, reports CBS affiliate KFMB.

Authorities say early in the morning on Dec. 24, 2013, 22-year-olds Salvatore Belvedere and Ilona Flint were shot and killed in the parking lot of the Westfield Mission Valley mall in San Diego. Gianni Belvedere, 24, brother of Salvatore and Ilona’s fiancée, went missing immediately after the shooting and was named a missing person at-risk by San Diego police.

KFMB reported Friday that Gianni’s body was found on Jan. 17 by Riverside authorities responding to a report about a foul odor coming from the trunk of his dark-green 2004 Toyota Camry, which was parked near a fast-food restaurant.

All three deaths have been ruled homicides by authorities.

Police have given a description of the suspect: a male between 5-foot-10 and six feet tall, last seen at the mall late Dec. 23 and early Dec. 24 wearing a black hoodie with white bands across the biceps area of the sleeves, tan pants and white tennis shoes.

“I understand the want for information in this case…. I can assure you that if this case can be solved, this case will be solved, and it will be solved lawfully, morally and ethically,” said SDPD homicide Lt. Mike Hastings. “I expect to be releasing additional information if it is significant and as it comes about.”

Hastings said that an autopsy on Gianni Belvedere was pending.
