Man shot dead after intervening in apparent domestic violence, police say

SAN ANTONIO -- A man was shot dead in a busy parking lot after he tried to help a woman believed to be the victim of domestic abuse, CBS affiliate KENS reports

Police are calling the dead man a Good Samaritan. According to the San Antonio Police Department, the victim was in his car when he saw the woman being pulled by her hair by another man. SAPD says that the victim said “let her go” to her abuser and was then shot in the neck.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. and two other people were hurt, a woman with the victim and another woman who was not involved. Both have been transferred to local hospitals. The woman not involved is in critical condition.

A woman in the vehicle with the man who was shot was injured by shattered glass.

Police Chief William McManus says the beaten woman escaped and a police helicopter followed the shooter’s vehicle for 10 miles before his arrest.

The shooter fled the scene, but was taken into custody in Castroville without incident after a police helicopter followed him.
