Ryan Murphy: Jessica Lange will "be back" on "American Horror Story"

Don't lose hope that Jessica Lange will never return to "American Horror Story" -- co-creator Ryan Murphy certainly hasn't.

The actress has starred in the past four seasons of the gruesome show, but is not returning in Season 5 because of commitments on Broadway. Lange will perform in "Long Day's Journey Into Night" in Spring 2016.

Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that Lange will return one day.

"I've been talking to her," he said. "It's always possible. I'm trying to deal with her play schedule. Jessica is always about the character. She'll be back -- she's not gone forever. But that's the fun and fresh thing about the show: sometimes somebody has to go away before you realize how much you miss them. She wants to come back; we just have to come up with something."

Lady Gaga will take her place instead as the lead in Season 5's "Hotel." She will play the owner of the hotel.

Murphy said of her character: "She owns the hotel and she is sort of a very wealthy social doyenne who is consumed with art and fashion and people. She has a nefarious plan that is revealed in the first episode that plays out of the course of the season."
