Robert Downey Jr. and "True Detective" creator developing HBO series
"True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto is looking to help bring Robert Downey Jr. back to television -- and possibly revive "Perry Mason" at the same time.
Pizzolatto, who has an overall development deal with HBO, is working on a proposed series for the premium cable network that he would write starring Downey, with both serving as producers, according to Variety.
Insiders claim that the series will be a reboot of "Perry Mason," something Downey has been trying to get made for some time. He originally had a feature film version of the series in development at Warner Bros. in 2011, but movement on that project reportedly stalled after his "The Judge" did not perform as well as expected in 2014.
Downey's previous television work is limited to a run on "Ally McBeal" that came before his resurgence as a box office star.
