Rick Springfield joins season 2 of "True Detective"

"True Detective" just got a dose of rock and roll.

Rick Springfield will appear on season 2 of the critically-acclaimed HBO series.

The singer-actor tweeted the news this week:

It's not clear whether Springfield makes a guest appearance or has a recurring role on the show.

Season 2 will feature a new cast, replacing season 1's Golden Globe-nominated actors Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Monaghan. The upcoming storyline follows three police officers and the journey of a career criminal in the aftermath on a murder.

Filming is underway in California for the drama, which stars Vince Vaughan, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly.

Springfield, 65, may be best known for the 1981 hit "Jessie's Girl," but he has also some acting credentials, too, with appearances on "Drop Dead Diva," "Hawaii Five-0," "Hot in Cleveland," "General Hospital" and "Californication."
