Paul Ryan is changing his official name on Capitol Hill

Rep. Paul Ryan has asked the House clerk to change his official title on Capitol Hill to Paul D. Ryan, his office confirmed to CBS News' Walt Cronkite.

House Republicans nominated Ryan on Wednesday afternoon to be the next speaker of the House. The full House will elect the next speaker on the floor on Thursday morning.

Ryan asked the clerk of the House to include his middle initial -- D. for Davis -- effective now -- on all official documents and offices, Politico first reported.

It's not yet clear why Ryan decided to tweak his name.
