Report: Energy Sec. Rick Perry took charter flight day before Price resigned
A day before Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price resigned over his use of private charter flights for official government business, Energy Secretary Rick Perry took a chartered jet to Ohio, according to Reuters.
A company that runs a regional airport in southern Ohio, PMH aviation, confirmed Wednesday that Perry took a private plane from an airport in Pennsylvania to the Ohio airport.
Perry visited a decommissioned uranium enrichment facility in Ohio with Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and two congressmen, the report said, and Perry had toured a coal mine in Pennsylvania.
This comes as the Interior Department's inspector general is investigating Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's use of charter flights. The Treasury Department's inspector general is also looking into Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin's travel after he reportedly used a government plane to view the eclipse. Environmental Protection Agency head Scott Pruitt is also under scrutiny for spending more than $58,000 on taxpayer-funded non-commercial flights, CBS News has reported.
Price resigned on Friday from his Cabinet post after Politico reported that his use of private charter planes cost the government at least $400,000.
