Report: Ariz. dad allegedly threw tot in pool as lesson

PHOENIX - A Phoenix father was arrested on suspicion of child abuse Saturday after a video apparently showed him throwing his toddler daughter into a pool, reports Arizona Central.

Corey Edmond McCarthy, 23, reportedly told police he was trying to teach the 22-month-old girl to be afraid of water after she dropped a puppy into the water. The puppy reportedly died.

The video shows McCarthy apparently throwing the child nearly across the width of the pool before the girl hits the water. In the video, McCarthy's girlfriend is seen swimming after the child to retrieve her.

The video showed the child was left unattended near the pool for nearly 25 minutes before the incident, during which time she dropped the puppy into the water, reports Arizona Central, citing police.

The girl's mother reportedly went to police with the video.
