Red Sox broadcaster's son must give DNA sample in murder case

WOBURN, Mass. - A judge has ordered Jared Remy, the son of Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, to submit a DNA sample in the murder case against him.

Jared Remy, 35, is charged with murder in the Aug. 15, 2013 fatal stabbing of his girlfriend Jennifer Martel at their Waltham apartment. He has pleaded not guilty.

At a hearing Wednesday, the Middlesex Superior Court judge approved collection of a saliva sample from Remy, who was not present in court.

The judge also signed off on a request by Jared Remy's attorney to seal an interview that investigators conducted with the couple's then-4-year-old daughter a day after the slaying. The little girl allegedly witnessed events.

Remy's trial is scheduled for October.
