Ray Rice, NFL star, arrested after incident in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice was arrested after an argument with his fiancee early Saturday morning in a casino in Atlantic City, police said.

Rice and Janay Palmer were both taken into custody on simple assault charges, according to Atlantic City police. The couple was released on a summons after the incident, which occurred at the Revel Casino.

No injuries were reported and both Rice and Palmer declined medical attention.

Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, says he's hopeful that "the matter turns out to be little more than a misunderstanding" after further investigation by police.

"We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancee," read a statement released by the Ravens organization. "We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained."

Rice was drafted by the Ravens in the second round of the 2008 draft after playing college football at Rutgers University in New Jersey.
