Quake rattles parts of 8 states

CHEROKEE, Okla. -- A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck northern Oklahoma, southern Kansas and parts of six other states early Thursday.

According to the National Earthquake Information Center, the quake hit at 1:42 a.m. and was centered about 8 miles southwest of Cherokee.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the temblor.

National Earthquake Information Center geophysicist Randy Baldwin says Oklahoma has seen more than 20 magnitude 4 quakes this year.

CBS Wichita, Kansas affiliate KWCH-TV reports the farthest away someone reported feeling the quake was Tucson, Arizona, which is 1,231 miles from the epicenter.

The station says quake shook parts of 5 states in addition to Oklahoma, Kansas and Arizona: Missouri, Texas, Nebraska, Arkansas and Illinois.
