Puppies get loose on Pennsylvania Turnpike after crash

LOWER MORELAND, Pa. -- An accident involving a van carrying a load of puppies caused quite a back-up Wednesday morning for drivers along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, CBS Philadelphia reports.

The crash happened around 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes at mile marker 346 between Willow Grove and Bensalem.

Police say a van transporting puppies collided with a truck. The impact of the crash caused several of the dogs to be released from their cages and to get loose on the highway.

All lanes of the eastbound Turnpike were closed for about and hour-and-a-half while authorities rounded up the puppies.

It was unclear if any of the dogs were injured.

Two people involved in the accident were taken to Abington Hospital in unknown condition.

Traffic was jammed for miles as a result of the crash.

Last week, hundreds of piglets got loose after a semitrailer carrying 2,200 of the animals overturned on an Ohio highway.
