Pricey pooch: $10K dog found after being reported stolen
HANOVER, Va. -- Police have recovered a 175-pound dog, worth a reported $10,000, that was allegedly stolen from the backyard of a Virginia home, reports CBS affiliate WTVR.
The South African Mastif named Adoons disappeared last Monday, according to police, but was found in good health roaming the streets Friday.
A tip led police to the neighborhood where the dog was found.
The owner, Terry Allen, told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that she bought the dog for $10,000 in January from a breeder in South Africa.
Allen's sister told WTVR that Adoons recently won an award at a dog show and the family believes that's why the dog was abducted.
In a statement, the Hanover County Sheriff's Office said it is continuing to investigate the case. No suspects have been identified.
