Pregnant woman vanishes in N.C. on delivery date

SALISBURY, N.C. -A pregnant North Carolina woman was reported missing on Tuesday, the day she was scheduled to deliver her daughter via C-section at a Charlotte hospital, reports CBS affiliate WBTV.

Carrie Bradshaw Crowther, 49, reportedly disappeared from her home in Salisbury, about 40 miles northeast of Charlotte, while her older daughter was getting gas in order to drive her mother to the hospital.

"We were gone about 7 or 8 minutes, when we got back she was gone," Crowther's older daughter Lauren Lusk told the station. "Nothing was missing, she was just gone."

Lusk had flown in from her home in Kansas for the delivery and to help her mother adjust after the birth, reports CBS affiliate WRAL.

Lusk told the station that when she returned from getting gas, the doors to the home were unlocked, but the lights were off.

Police say Crowther was spotted in Statesville, about 25 miles northwest of Salisbury, on Wednesday afternoon. Crowther was driving a champagne colored 2001 Mazda MPV van with an unknown expired Kansas tag.

"I want to tell her to come home, we love you and we miss you, and we need you," Lusk told WBTV. "She's a very likable person, she's friendly to everyone, she's really hard not to like, very personable, easy to talk to, just, everybody loves her."

Police say Crowther could possibly be heading to the Linville Gorge area in North Carolina.

Lusk told WRAL that the child's father hasn't heard from her and the family is concerned because Crowther can't give birth naturally.

"She cannot give natural birth, and that's why our family is so worried," she said. "If she does go into labor, she won't make it."

Anyone with information on Crowther's whereabouts is asked to call the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
