Pregnant Philly woman fatally shot; doctors rush to save baby

PHILADELPHIA - A pregnant Philadelphia woman died Sunday after being shot, but her baby has survived at least the initial rush to save it, police say. The child is currently listed in critical condition.

Authorities say the woman, who was in the late stages of her pregnancy, was shot once in the face around 11 a.m. in the city's Frankford section, CBS Philadelphia reported.

She was taken to Temple University Hospital where her baby was delivered by emergency cesarean section and died a short time later.

Initially no arrests were reported and no weapon was recovered, authorities say. But the Philadelphia Daily News reports the suspected shooter has been taken into custody, according to preliminary information from police.
