Questions abound after Trump fires Comey

President Trump's approval rating is nearing a record low, with losses among the non-college-educated and white men, according to a Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday.

The poll found 36 percent approve of Mr. Trump's job while 58 percent disapprove of it. His approval rating is down from the last poll in mid-April, following his decision to launch U.S. missile strikes against the Syrian regime, in which 40 percent of the public approved of his job. In early April, he received the lowest approval rating of his presidency so far -- 35 percent.

Only 29 percent of independent voters now approve of his job, down from 38 percent in April. White voters with no college degree, meanwhile, are split with 47 percent approving and 46 disapproving. That's compared to a majority, 57 percent, approving in April.

More than half, 52 percent, said that they disapprove of the way Mr. Trump is handling the economy and a majority, 59 percent, also said they disapprove of the way he's handling foreign policy.

Meanwhile, 54 percent said they want the Democratic Party to win back control of the House in the 2018 midterm elections, compared to 38 percent who feel the opposite. Seventy-one percent of voters said they disapprove of the way congressional Republicans are doing their jobs and 58 percent said the same about their Democratic counterparts.

The poll surveyed 1,078 voters between May 4 and 9 with a 3 percentage point margin of error.
