Poll: Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump by 9 in Pennsylvania

Tonight: Hillary Clinton's big night

As Hillary Clinton prepares to accept the Democratic nomination in Philadelphia tonight, a new poll finds her leading Donald Trump in Pennsylvania by 9 points.

The survey, from Suffolk University, finds Clinton at 50 percent and Trump at 41 percent among likely voters in the Keystone State. If third-party candidates were added in, Clinton leads Trump 46 percent to 37 percent, with Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson at 5 percent and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at just under 3 percent.

Another recent poll in Pennsylvania, from NBC/Marist earlier in July, found Clinton leading Trump in a two-way matchup by a similar margin (45 percent to 36 percent).

As has been the case in other recent polls, both Clinton and Trump's favorability ratings are underwater. Forty-four percent of likely Pennsylvania voters view Clinton favorably, compared with 48 percent who view her unfavorably; for Trump, those figures are 33 percent favorable and 57 percent unfavorable.

That may be why 58 percent of those surveyed said the election made them feel "alarmed." Twenty-seven percent said it made them feel "excited," and 9 percent said it made them feel "bored."

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine's addition to the Democratic ticket did little to sway voters' opinions on the race, the poll found. Asked whether his selection made them more or less likely to vote for Clinton, 14 percent said it made them more likely and 9 percent said it made them less likely--but a full 74 percent said it made no difference.

The Suffolk poll surveyed 500 likely Pennsylvania voters from July 25-27 and has a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points.
