Poll: 23 percent of GOP NH voters say the don't plan to vote for Trump in 2020

Nearly a quarter of New Hampshire's likely GOP primary voters say they plan to vote for a candidate in 2020 other than President Trump, according to a new Granite State Poll.

Forty-seven percent of Republicans, on the other hand, said that they plan to vote for Mr. Trump, and 30 percent said they don't know or are not sure whom to vote for, said the survey, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.

Only 18 percent of GOP primary voters said they have definitely decided whom to vote for in the 2020 GOP primary. Five percent said they're leaning toward someone but don't yet plant to vote for them and 77 percent said they're still trying to decide. Mr. Trump has planned to run for re-election, but it's possible Republicans might try to challenge the incumbent.

More than three-quarters of Granite State voters said they are happy with their vote in 2016, while 3 percent regret how they voted and 20 percent said they are neither happy nor regret their choice.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are the potential candidates who would lead in a 2020 Democratic presidential primary, the poll found.

Thirty-one said they would back Sanders, an independent from Vermont, for the Democratic nomination. Sanders ran for the Democratic nomination in 2016. Just under a quarter, 24 percent, said they would support Biden and 13 percent said they would back Warren, a Democrat representing Massachusetts.

Other potential Democrats who made the list were Sens. Kamala Harris of California, Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Cory Booker of New Jersey, former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio.

The poll surveyed 573 New Hampshire adults between Oct. 3 and 15 with a 4.1 percentage point margin of error.
