Police: Woman tried to kill roommate after failed suicide pact

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. -- A southern Vermont woman has denied accusations that she attempted to kill her roommate with a hammer after she allegedly backed out of their suicide pact.

The Rutland Herald reports 69-year-old Fiona Gordon-Macleod pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of attempted murder and aggravated domestic assault.

Court documents say Gordon-Macleod and the 76-year-old victim discussed taking their own lives together as their health began to deteriorate.

Police say no definitive plans were ever made and Gordon-Macleod became upset with the victim after she stated she no longer wished to follow through.

Prosecutors say Gordon-Macleod repeatedly bashed her roommate in the head and upper body with a hammer in their Putney home.

Police say Gordon-Macleod was arrested Friday after calling 911 to report that she may have killed someone.
