Police: Woman drove drunk to "coffee with a cop" event

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- A Montana woman who police said was stumbling and smelled of alcohol was arrested after driving to a cafe hosting a "Coffee with a Cop" event.

Great Falls Lt. Doug Mahlum says 66-year-old Charlene Kranitz walked by more than a dozen uniformed officers in Schulte's Coffeehouse on Wednesday to get to a frozen yogurt machine.

That's when an officer noticed she appeared to be stumbling, reports CBS affiliate KRTV. The officer also noticed "the unmistakable odor of metabolized alcohol," the Great Falls Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

The officer followed Kranitz outside, and noticed that her car was resting against a light pole. She was arrested moments later.

"When he asked her if she noticed the 15 or so police officers (at the cafe) she said she did," the department wrote in its Facebook post.

Karnitz pleaded not guilty Thursday morning to a misdemeanor DUI count. Efforts to reach her for comment were not immediately successful.
