Police: Track Palin "uncooperative, belligerent and evasive"

Palin cites PTSD in son's domestic violence arrest

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Soon after a Wasilla, Alaska, woman called police Monday night to report a domestic violence incident, Track Palin, the son of former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, also called, reports CBS affiliate KTVA.

Track Palin was later arrested and charged with assault, misconduct involving a weapon and interfering with a report of domestic violence.

The woman allegedly reported that "a male had punched her in the face and that a firearm was involved," police said in an affidavit. It's not clear what was said during the second call, which Track is alleged to have made.

When police arrived at the home, owned by Sarah and Todd Palin, Track Palin came outside, police said. The responding officer described Track Palin's behavior as "uncooperative, belligerent and evasive" while he was being questioned about the calls. The officer also noted a strong smell of alcohol and bloodshot eyes.

The 26-year-old allegedly said he did not know where the woman who had called 911 was, and was put into handcuffs due to his "escalating hostility," court records show.

After detaining Track Palin, officers were able to locate the woman who called 911 hiding under a bed inside the home, crying.

After speaking with both the woman and Track Palin, police determined that the woman was in a relationship with Track Palin, and the incident began when he allegedly became angry that she was in contact with her ex-boyfriend. The two confirmed they were arguing during a drive to the residence and in the house's driveway.

The woman claimed Track Palin was calling her names, and in an effort to calm him down and "to scare him away from 'touching her,'" she told him she called the police.

"Palin approached [the woman] and struck her on the left side of her head near her eye with a closed fist," police said in court documents. "Palin then kicked [her] on the right knee."

The woman said he then grabbed her phone, which was on the ground next to her, and threw it across the driveway. She was able to retrieve the phone and headed inside the residence. Track Palin was reportedly already inside the residence and had a gun. She said he was holding a gun and yelled, "Do you think I won't do it?"

She allegedly believed he would kill himself.

Track Palin denied using a weapon during the altercation, "but stated that (weapons) were spread throughout both residences on the property," police noted.

Track Palin had an injury on his face he claimed was caused when the woman "threw a bow," referring to her elbow, at his face. The woman had a visible head injury, according to police, and was complaining of pain in her leg.

Further investigation revealed the woman had tried to call police multiple times, but that "her phone was likely broken when it was thrown."

Track Palin was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Palmer court. His bail was set at $1,500 cash corporat, according to court records.

Appearing with Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, Sarah Palin spoke about the domestic charges her son faces, suggesting he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Furthermore, she suggested that problems like PTSD are exacerbated by President Obama's lack of leadership and respect for the military.

Palin said she can "certainly relate with other families who kind of feel these ramifications of some PTSD and some of the woundedness that our soldiers do return with, and it makes me realize more than ever, it is now or never for the sake of America's finest that we have that commander in chief that will respect them."
