Police: Texas business owner catches, shoots masked burglar

PLANO, Texas -- Police say a Texas man caught four masked burglars inside his business and responded with gunfire, reports CBS DFW.

Early Tuesday morning, the suspects allegedly broke into the business by prying the front door, police said in a press release. The owner, who was upstairs, heard the suspects and walked downstairs.

As he watched them allegedly steal cash, the owner fired his handgun at the suspects, who ran from the building to a vehicle and sped off.

Soon after the incident occurred, Jacolby Tremone McCoy, 29, was dropped off at a local hospital, police say. Staff reportedly notified police after realizing he had been shot.

Investigators say that evidence taken from the scene and hospital, as well as witness testimony, gave them sufficient probable cause to charge McCoy with the burglary.

The suspect is in critical condition, according to police. The business owner was not injured.
