Police: Teenager arrested after drawing up "hit list" of students to shoot

SANTA ANA, Calif. - An Orange County, Calif., high school student drew up a "hit list" of students whom he wanted to shoot after years of bullying, police said.

The 16-year-old, a sophomore at the Nova Academy charter school in Santa Ana, was arrested this week after he told his ex-girlfriend of his plan in an email, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Two students went to the principal with the information, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department.

"She immediately did the right thing, called the police department," Bertagna said. "We came out, investigated, they interviewed the male student and based on the information that we got from the interview and the evidence the officers obtained, they arrested him."

The student, who said he had been bullied since middle school, allegedly was planning to enlist others in his plan.

He is being held at a juvenile detention center.

Investigators said they did not find any weapons on the student.

"Our community is about taking care of our families, and that's what we pride ourselves in doing, and in doing the right thing," the principal, Renee Lancaster said. "And we want this student to get some help, if needed, and we care about him, just like we care about every student here."
