Police: S.C. man waving gun around at card game fatally shoots wife

CHESNEE, S.C.--Spartanburg County deputies say a 25-year-old man waving his gun around during a card game killed his wife when his gun fired.

The sheriff's office said in a statement that Jeremy Sims had been drinking and smoking marijuana before the shooting around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, which took place at his home in Chesnee, about 100 miles north of Columbia, South Carolina.

The coroner's office identified the shooting victim as Sims' wife, 23-year-old Shelby Elizabeth Sims.

Deputies say Shelby Sims' mother and a child were at the home, but were not injured. Jeremy Sims was charged with murder and remained in the Spartanburg County jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
