Police: Robbery suspect posed as a cop

FONTANA, Calif. -- Police are seeking a robbery suspect who they say claimed to be a cop, according to CBS Los Angeles.

The robbery occurred shortly at a home in Fontana -- about 50 miles east of Los Angeles -- after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, police said. The family was awoken around that time by an unknown man shining a light in their eyes, according to the station.

The suspect reportedly identified himself as a police officer. He then allegedly ordered the family members to lie face down in bed while he ransacked the drawers in their bedrooms.

It remains unclear if the suspect fled from the scene on foot or by vehicle, reports CBS Los Angeles. It is also uncertain what, if anything, was stolen from the house.

Investigators reportedly described the suspect as a light-skinned African American male, believed to be in his early-to-mid 20s. Police also say he was last seen wearing a dark sweater and a beanie.

A preliminary investigation reportedly revealed the suspect entered the home through a window in the living room.

Investigators are encouraging anyone with knowledge of the incident to call the Fontana Police Department at (909) 356-TIPS.
