Police question, release man in NC courthouse shooting

NASHVILLE, N.C. - Authorities say a man arrested in a shooting outside a North Carolina courthouse has been released after questioning.

A news release from Nashville Police Chief Thomas Bashore says that 23-year-old Ontarious Montre Lewis was released after he was questioned late Tuesday.

Authorities had identified Lewis as the suspected gunman, and a news release Tuesday said he'd been arrested.

Bashore's latest release says a second man is still being sought for questioning, and investigators are working on several leads related to the shooting.

Bashore and the Nash County sheriff did not immediately respond to messages seeking further comment.

Phone calls to listings for Lewis in Rocky Mount went unanswered.

Two men suffered wounds that didn't appear to be life-threatening in the shooting in front of the courthouse Tuesday.

Authorities have said the victims were targeted and knew their assailants, but investigators have not released a motive, reports CBS affiliate WRAL.
