Police probe deadly tow truck shooting in Dallas

DALLAS - Police in Dallas say a man was fatally shot by a tow truck driver whose truck he apparently got in and put in reverse, reports CBS DFW.

The shooting took place at around 3 a.m. Thursday at an apartment complex.

Authorities say they don't know why the man -- identified as Lance Lemons --- got into the truck, or his intentions.

The tow truck driver was at the apartment complex looking for parking violators, but Lemon's car was not parked near the tow truck, reports the station.

The shooter has not been identified.

According to the station, the driver has an Arizona concealed handgun license. Authorities said they were working to determine whether Texas recognizes the license.

"...We're investigating whether or not he had a provision within the statues to protect his property from theft at nighttime," said Police Major Cotner said.

Cotner told CBS DFW that the driver's company, United Tow of Dallas, had an arrangement with the apartment complex to tow parking violators.
