Police: Off-duty Chicago officer critically shot

CHICAGO - Chicago police say an off-duty officer and her daughter have been shot during a domestic dispute involving the daughter's boyfriend.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports First Deputy Supt. Al Wysinger said early Wednesday the boyfriend shot the 49-year-old officer in the face, neck and forearms. She was listed in critical condition at an area hospital. He says the officer's 21-year-old daughter was also taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound in her thigh and her condition had stabilized.

Wysinger says a man is in custody after police responded to the Tuesday night shooting in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. He says the suspected shooter took the daughter's 2-year-old child, who has since been recovered.

Wysinger says the officer is a 24-year veteran of the department. He didn't release her name.
