Troopers say they were called to the home of 52-year-old Douglas Mess in the Wyoming County town of Attica on Monday and told by his son that his father didn't go to work and hadn't been seen since 8 p.m. Sunday.

Police launched an air and ground search and found Mess's body concealed in a mound of manure at the rear of his farm.

Authorities say Mess had been killed by his wife of 30 years, Charlene Mess. She's charged with second-degree murder.

Charlene Mess is being held without bail Tuesday in the county jail. Her public defender couldn't be reached for comment.
