Police: N.Y. man tried to kill girlfriend in toilet-tank attack

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - Authorities say a Long Island man tried to kill his girlfriend by first hitting her over the head with a toilet tank and then stabbing her repeatedly, CBS New York reports.

Police said 50-year-old Michael Taylor and the 53-year-old victim got into an argument in the bathroom of their Uniondale home around 12:25 a.m. Saturday.

Taylor hit the victim over the head with the toilet tank and knocking her unconscious, authorities said. Police said that he then used a knife to repeatedly stab her in the head, neck and back until she woke up and managed to escape, according to the station.

Once police arrived at the home, they said they tried to make contact with Taylor for two hours before they found him hiding inside a wall in the basement.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and treated for her injuries.

Taylor is being charged with second-degree attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal contempt, and aggravated criminal contempt, police said.
