Cops: Maine murder suspect found hanging by bedsheet in cell

AUGUSTA, Maine -- Police say a woman who was charged Monday in connection with a homicide in November died Wednesday afternoon, reports CBS affiliate WGME.

Maine State Police say that correction officers found Zina Fritz, 27, hanging by a bedsheet in her jail cell. She was being held at the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta, according to the station.

Police say she was rushed to a hospital by ambulance, but died on the way there.

Her body was then reportedly taken to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy. State police and the Maine Attorney General's Office will be investigating the death, as is the standard when a person dies in jail, according to the station.
