Police link Hong Young to a total of 9 Maryland shootings

LAUREL, Md. - Police are linking another two shooting incidents, for a total of nine, to a Maryland man suspected of firing a gun at random buildings and drivers.

Anne Arundel County Police on Wednesday said they had linked 35-year-old Hong Young to shooting damage at a public library and the Maryland Live! Casino.

Police said the shooting at the Russett Library in Laurel happened about 3 a.m. March 2, shortly after calls for shots fired were reported at a Wal-Mart across the street.

Investigators found a bullet hole in one of the library's windows and in the ceiling.

Police also were testing bullet holes found on the exterior of the Maryland Live! Casino.

Young is being held without bond on charges of attempted murder and assault in a Feb. 24 shooting that injured a man.

Police say Young, a former corrections officer, fired at a 61-year-old driver at an Arundel Mills gas station. He reportedly told police that voices told him to shoot the man.

Young is also linked, authorities say, to shootings at a Wal-Mart, a movie theater in Columbia, the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, two restaurants in Laurel and on the Inter-County Connector in Prince George's County, reports CBS Baltimore. No one was killed in the shootings.

Police say Young's car was spotted at a number of the shootings and the FBI discovered rounds of ammunition and 10 weapons at his Beltsville home.

Young was arrested March 3 without incident. Authorities have not commented on a potential motive.
