Police find body of missing UNO student in submerged car

NEW ORLEANS - The search for a missing 19-year-old University of New Orleans student ended Wednesday after the girl was found dead in her car, which was submerged in water near New Orleans' Irish Bayou, reports CBS affiliate WWL.

Authorities said that Hayley Howard's body was recovered underwater near Interstate-10 in New Orleans, near the area where police had tracked her cell phone activity. Howard went missing early Saturday morning.

Police are investigating the crash as a fatal accident, said New Orleans Police Department Chief Ronal Serpas.

Howard called her boyfriend around 2 a.m. Saturday from near where her body was eventually recovered. She reportedly told her boyfriend that she had a flat tire and some "nice people" helped her change it.

Friends, family and police searched four days for Howard, with over a hundred people offering help and support, according to WWL.
