Police: Burglary victim thought intruder was just a bad dream

DELTONA, Fla. - Deputies in Volusia County, Fla. say a man broke into a sleeping 62-year-old woman's bedroom and stole her belongings, although the woman initially thought she had only dreamt it, reports CBS affiliate WKMG.

Sean Whalen, 25, was arrested on charges of grand theft, burglary of an occupied dwelling and possession of a schedule IV substance after allegedly breaking into the woman's home on Saturday.

Deputies said the victim reported that she initially thought she had dreamed about the figure in her room at 2:41 a.m. but then discovered two wallets, a purse, a smartphone and a Galaxy tablet were missing, reports the station.

That's when she ran to a neighbor's house to call for help.

The station reports deputies say they later located one of the stolen wallets and a crowbar in the woods. On Sunday, authorities tracked down Whalen at his house, less than half a mile from the break-in. They say they found a duffel bag and a backpack with stolen property inside.

Deputies reportedly say Whalen is also suspected of committing several other burglaries in the area. He was booked into the Volusia County jail on $60,000 bond.
