Police: Body in suitcase is not missing Utah woman

MAGNA, Utah - Utah police say a body found in a suitcase along Interstate 80 west of Salt Lake City is not that of a woman who disappeared last month.

Provo police Lt. Brandon Post said Friday the remains are not related to the case of Elizabeth "Elena" Laguna Salgado.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Jared Garcia says that identifying marks on the body made it clear that it wasn't her. He says they're working with another police department to confirm the identity of the body.

State transportation workers stumbled across the large suitcase in a ravine on Thursday.

CBS affiliate KUTV reports Salgado's parents held a news conference Friday where they echoed statements made by police that characteristics of the remains found in the suitcase do not match those of their daughter. They said police asked about scars found on the body and Salgado has no scars.

The 26-year-old Salgado was last seen on April 16 leaving a language school in Provo. Her family says they fear she may have been kidnapped.
