1 dead, 2 injured after shooting at beauty college in Indiana, police say

Police in Fort Wayne responded to the scene of a shooting at Ravenscroft Beauty College, according to CBS affiliate WANE-TV, where at least one person has been confirmed dead.

The station says officers received a report of an active shooter at the school around 6:45 p.m. local time. Upon arriving, they found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound outside the building and was rushed to a hospital in serious condition. WANE reported her condition was downgraded to critical.

"As officers arrived on the scene, they located a female adult. A victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," Fort Wayne Police Officer John Chambers said. "As officers entered the building, they encountered a male individual believed to be deceased."

Chambers said officers treated the situation as a possible active shooter at the time of dispatch and set up a perimeter and secured the premises.

Police believe the deceased man was the shooter and WANE cites eyewitnesses who said the incident was a domestic dispute between the deceased and victim.

Chambers added that the Allen County Coroners Office will provide the exact cause and manner of death as well as the identity.

Video from the scene shows a police presence blocking a local street as the investigation continues.

No other details have been released by the police as the investigation is ongoing.

WANE-TV reports that as 50 law enforcement vehicles were at the scene, including city, county and members of the FBI task force. Bystanders watched the incident unfold from across the street at a church parking lot.

Chambers said a second female was sent to a local hospital and listed in good condition.
