Pizza driver fights back, kills would-be robber in Florida
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - A pizza delivery driver shot and killed a would-be robber in Hollywood, Florida early Wednesday morning, reports CBS Miami.
The shooting happened outside a Domino's shortly before 1 a.m. The driver had just returned from a delivery when two masked men ambushed him in the parking lot and tried to rob him, according to the station. The driver reportedly pulled a gun and fatally shot one of them.
Witnesses told the station at least six shots were fired. It's not clear if the masked men also fired shots.
The second robbery suspect ran away. It's not clear if he was wounded.
Miguel Nieves told CBS Miami his girlfriend's daughter works at the Domino's and was walking out the door when the shooting happened. He said he feels fortunate that her co-worker was able to fight back.
"She was shaken up at how it happened," he said. "I'm glad he was armed. I'm glad he was able to protect them because it could have been worse."
Domino's worker Daniel Tymecki told the station he was "in shock" and didn't know his fellow co-worker carried a gun.
He said the co-worker has children at home and faced a split-second life or death decision.
"Obviously his life was threatened or he felt that it was threatened," said Tymecki. "It's kind of sad, really, that he had to do that since he has a family."
Police set up a large perimeter in the area but were not able to locate the second subject.
