Phishing scam targets E-ZPass customers

NEW YORK- The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says it's gotten word of an email phishing scam disguised as an attempt by E-ZPass to collect unpaid toll money, reports CBS Philly.

Several other agencies, including the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, have also issued warnings about the scam. They said it is an attempt to steal sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, or credit card details.

The Port Authority advises customers not to open these emails, and to delete them immediately.

If you owe money for an E-ZPass toll, the company will send an invoice through the US Postal Service, not in an email, CBS Philly reports.

The E-ZPass system is used by motorists in 15 states in the Midwest, Northeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions.
