Cops: Pa. man shoots, kills girlfriend with crossbow

PHILADELPHIA -- Police arrested a man who fatally shot his girlfriend with a crossbow in Philadelphia.

The 42-year-old woman, who police have identified as Pamela Nightlinger, was shot once in the chest Sunday night. She later died at a hospital.

Officers have arrested a 40-year-old man who they say was her boyfriend. He has not been identified, and charges against him are pending.

Philadelphia Police Capt. Anthony Ginaldi tells CBS Philadelphia that police initially responded around 9:30 p.m. on the report of a stabbing. Police say Nightlinger had fled to a neighbor's house when the boyfriend fired his hunting crossbow at her, piecing her through the chest.

Responders found the victim "lying in a pool of her own blood," Ginaldi said.

Police tell the station they had been called to the couple's home in the past several times after the suspect was accused of domestic violence.

Police tell CBS Philadelphia children also apparently live in the couple's home, but were away in a different part of the state at the time of the killing.
