"Pretend nurse" gets prison for kidnapping Pa. newborn

PITTSBURGH - A woman who dressed as a nurse and abducted a 3-day-old boy from a Pittsburgh hospital in a handbag has been sentenced to up to five years in prison followed by 10 years' probation.

Twenty-one-year Breona Moore, of East McKeesport, Pa., told the Allegheny County judge who sentenced her Tuesday that all she wanted to do was "love someone."

CBS Pittsburgh reports Moore entered the room of new mother Wanda King at Magee-Women's Hospital of UPMC in August of 2012, wearing scrubs and pretending to be a nurse. She told King she was taking her newborn baby for tests. She then put the baby boy in a zippered bag and fled.

Moore was 5-foot-4 and 230 pounds, but relatives doubted the pregnancy and called police when they heard about the kidnapping on the news.

Police found the child unharmed with Moore a few hours later.

In addition to the prison sentence - two-and-a-half to five years - Moore must also register with state authorities under Megan's Law once she gets out of prison because she kidnapped a minor, according to the station.

"We've done everything to go along with the process," said Blaine Jones, Moore's attorney. "Breona was remorseful.... We waived the preliminary hearing because Breona knew that she'd done wrong. We came here and pleaded guilty. We didn't play any games... and today [Breona] faced the court and she took complete ownership."
