Cops: Pa. woman used hair straightener to repel armed robber

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - A Pennsylvania woman hit an alleged burglar over the head with a hair straightener in an effort to subdue him - and she was successful, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

David Sims, 45, got more than he bargained for when he allegedly broke into the Fayette County home of Kameshia Ford, the mother of his child.

He was armed with a kitchen knife and intended to rob Ford, but was unsuccessful after she went after him with the straightener, according to the station.

Sims was jailed on $50,000 bond and faces multiple charges, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

Lt. Thomas Kolencik, of the Uniontown City Police, reportedly says Ford will not be charged because she was defending herself and her family.

“My first instinct was to protect my family and loved ones, and I’d do it again if I had to,” Ford told CBS Pittsburgh.
