Driver smashes car into ER wall while trying to park

ST. MARYS, Pa. -- Police say a Pennsylvania woman trying to park her car instead accelerated suddenly and smashed into the wall of a hospital emergency room.

The impact caused a gaping hole in the brick wall near a window, but did not injure anyone inside. The driver was examined but not believed to be badly hurt.

Police identified the driver as 66-year-old Catherine Elliott, who authorities say may work for the Penn Highlands Elk Hospital in St. Marys. That's about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The woman hasn't been cited and police haven't said whether they figured out what led to the crash about 7 p.m. Thursday.

Hospital spokeswoman Karen Hazlett says the emergency room remained open after the "dust settled."
