Pennsylvania trooper dies after gun range incident

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police say a state trooper has died following an accidental shooting at a gun range in Montgomery County, reports CBS Philadelphia.

State Police say Trooper David Kedra of Troop K, Skippack station was fatally wounded when he was shot in the chest during a training exercise at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Complex in Conshohocken around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

He was airlifted to Temple University Hospital where he later died.

State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan released a statement that reads, in part:

"He died serving the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police mourn his loss and extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends."

Trooper Kedra, 26, had been a member of the Pennsylvania State Police since June 18, 2012.

This incident is being investigated jointly by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney's office.

Nearly two dozen police cars and motorcycles escorted Kedra's body from the hospital to the medical examiner's office.

All fire and EMS training was cancelled at the Montgomery Training Campus Tuesday night.

State Police say Trooper Kedra is the 96th member of the state police to be killed in the line of duty in the history of the Pennsylvania State Police.

He's the second trooper to be shot dead this month following Cpl. Bryon Dickson's death in an ambush on Sept. 12.
