Pa police officer shot while serving warrant; second officer kills suspect

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Authorities say a man shot a central Pennsylvania police officer who was trying to serve an arrest warrant, and was then killed by a second officer on the scene.

LNP newspapers report that the Lancaster County Coroner identified the slain suspect as 29-year-old Anthony Quinn Gomez Jr.

The coroner said Gomez died from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest that were "rapidly fatal."

Police said officers had gone to a Lancaster home shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday to try to serve a warrant, but the suspect refused to comply with orders to surrender.

District Attorney Craig Stedman said the first officer used a stun gun on Gomez, and was then hit twice by gunfire from the suspect. Then another police "responded appropriately" by shooting the suspect, the DA said.

The injured officer was said to be doing well Wednesday.
