Pa. man charged with rape, kidnapping in Craigslist job scam

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - Police have arrested a man accused of raping a woman who answered a job posting on Craigslist, reports CBS Philly.

Kevin Cornish, 42, was arrested Friday on charges of rape, kidnapping and human trafficking, according to the station. An 18-year-old woman told police she was hired by the suspect through a Craigslist ad for a home health aide. However, the woman said she declined the job after going to the suspect's home in Upper Darby, Pa. - bordering West Philadelphia - to fill out paperwork and discovering the job was for an escort service.

The woman told police she was raped after turning down the job offer.

CBS Philly reports police found 50 other applications for the so-called escort service after searching Cornish's home.

"Basically, it's a prostitution ring," Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the station. "Just based on what's contained in the application."

Chitwood said authorities are seeking out the women who filled out the applications to see if there were any other rapes or assaults. He told CBS Philly this is another unfortunate reminder that people need to know who they're dealing with when using sites like Craigslist.

"People go on these social network sites and they put themselves in harm's way sometimes," Chitwood said.
