Pa. couple charged with leaving toddler in hot car

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- In a case with echoes of a recent Georgia incident that ended in a toddler's death, a Pittsburgh couple has been jailed on child endangerment charges after police say they left the woman's 2-year-old boy outside in a hot, parked car while they drank in a bar.

Police say when someone called to report seeing the boy in the car about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday it was still 80 degrees with 70 percent humidity outside.

Officers reported finding the boy slumped over and unresponsive. He's since been taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

The boy's mother, 30-year-old Terri Hymes, of Homewood, Pa., and the stepfather, 27-year-old Archie Howard, were both also charged with public drunkenness. Police say Hymes left the bar and tried to drive away in the car as police were waiting for paramedics.
